So how has it been going over the last couple of days?
Have you been having any problems with communication at all?
Having any problems with emailing or telephone communication?
Is your PC giving you problems?
How about travel and transport?
Did the car start ok this morning?
Were you stuck in traffic for hours, at a time when the roads are normally clear?
If you have noticed anything along these lines then the reason could be in the heavens.
March 30th was the beginning of the Mercury retrograde, a phase that occurs three times in 2011, but sometimes we get four annual visits of this troublesome time.
What is Mercury Retrograde?
It occurs when the planet Mercury slows its orbital traverse of the heavens and appears to go backwards (retrograde). Of course this occurrence is impossible and what we see is just an optical illusion caused by the slowing of Mercury compared to the continuation of the earth. It can be likened to two vehicles travelling side by side, if one vehicle slows and drops behind it can give the illusion of travelling backwards.
Mercury rules communication and during this period of retrograde all kinds of mayhem are likely to occur:
• Emails do not arrive, or get deleted
• Mail is returned to sender
• Computers stop working or go haywire
• Phone lines go down
• Mobile phones have all kinds of gremlins
• Travel plans do not go to schedule
And many more things besides.
• It is said to be a bad time to make any new or major commitments
• to sign any contracts or papers of any importance
• To make any important decisions or move in any new directions
• Whatever you decide is correct during the retrograde period you will change your mind upon later.
• Medical examinations and visits to doctors
• Purchase of cars, motorbikes or bicycles
• Purchase of telephones, computers, TV's etc.
Any such purchases will result in unsatisfactory merchandise, doctors visits will result only in bad news. Communications will be lost or misinterpreted and one is also likely to be very accident prone.
The Mercury retrograde is set to be with us for about three weeks, until April 23rd when the planet speeds up again and things return to normal.
There will be two more retrogrades happening this year and they will occur from August 2nd to 26th and once more from November 24th until December 14th
It will be interesting to know if there is anything in this or if it is just speculation and superstition.
Interestingly, during the election debacle that occurred between George.W.Bush and Al Gore, which took place in 2000, occurred during a Mercury retrograde and was a complete hash of problems with the counting machines, recounts and other problems.
The fated liner Titanic also went down during a Mercury retrograde and misinformation and bad communication were largely responsible for what occurred on that fateful night.
On the positive side, retrograde is the ideal time for reflection, for going over unfinished work and bringing it to completion. It is also a good time to convince someone to change their minds about a decision previously made. And writers, if you have been suffering with writers block then now is the time to hit the keyboard…but perhaps a manual typewriter and not a PC would be advisable…just in case!

It's Official - Astrology Is A Science by Jonathon Turley

The Bombay High Court has declared astrology to be a science, so that guy who does your horoscope is really a scientist when he writes “today you will face challenges that could offer great rewards or penalties.”
 

The Bombay High Court ruled in a case brought by an NGO challenging ‘fake’ astrologers, tantriks, practitioners of Vastu shastra. The court ruled that “[s]o far as prayer related to astrology is concerned, the Supreme Court has already considered the issue and ruled that astrology is science. The court had in 2004 also directed the universities to consider if astrology science can be added to the syllabus. The decision of the apex court is binding on this court.”

This holding was based in part on the affidavit filed by Dr R Ramakrishna, deputy drug controller (India), west zone. He is the chief governmental enforcer of The Drugs and Magical Remedies Act (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. He declared that the act could not be used to debunk or restrict astrology or “applied sciences” like palmistry: “The said Act is aimed at prohibiting misleading advertisements relating to drugs and magic remedies. The Act does not cover and / or relate to astrology and / or allied sciences like Palmistry, Vaastu Shastra etc. In view thereof, a purported ban on practices promoting astrology and related sciences sought by the petitioner, which is a time tested science more than 4000 years old is totally misconceived and unjustifiable.”

Love Star Signs - Is Your Star Sign Compatibility Match With Ophiuchus by Alan Lord

There is a distinct buzz echoing around at the moment. It began in the astrology zone but its resonance can now be heard across the cosmos.

Astrology as we all know is the study of the stars and the planets and the effect that they have upon our lives. There have long and often been debates over the disputed claim of whether they can predict our future. Now it is suddenly the hot topic for discussion once more.

This is all due to a man named Parke Kunkle who teaches astronomy at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College, he told NBC in an interview that the way that we view the stars and the constellations has to be changed. According to Kunkle the change has come about due to a wobble in the earth’s axis which means it is not in the same place that it was 3000 years ago when the constellations were first allocated names and placed into what is now our zodiac.

This shifting of our planet has left a hole in the cosmos. Do not panic, it’s not a black hole as apparently this hole can be filled with another, new, star sign!

Star sign number 13 is to be called Ophiuchus and it sits between Scorpio and Sagittarius in the heavens.

Ophiuchus is not new he was around at the beginning of the zodiac along with the other 49 original constellations. These were whittled down by the Babylonians, first to 18 and then into the 12 that we are all familiar with.

Ophiuchus was known in the time of the Babylonians as Serpentarius the snake holder and the name comes from the Greek word meaning serpent-bearer.

The new sign of Ophiuchus will be placed into the solar chart to cover the period between Nov.29 and Dec.17 which means that Sagittarius will have to budge up to the right a bit to make room for him and will now cover the period between Dec 17 to Jan 20.

Likewise all of the star signs will have to make a similar move to accommodate our snake-carrying friend. Obviously the twelve signs that we know and love and that previously held a duration of around 30 days each are going to be whittled down somewhat. This means that some of the star signs will be only 3 weeks in duration while oddly enough Pisces, Leo and Taurus have a longer time in the proverbial wicket with a total of 38 days each. Virgo has the best deal with 44 days and poor old Scorpio is now only allowed to play for 7 days in total.

The personality traits of this new pretender Ophiuchus are that he is intelligent and honest and full of sexual magnetism. Now, as positive traits go they don’t sound too bad but as it is Sagittarius that is going to have to take on the Ophiuchus label and traits, I wonder how the old archer feels about losing his own traits of being very positive, popular, big hearted and a great listener.

Of course it is not only Sagittarius that is affected. We must all take on the personalities of the star sign immediately to our left. So Capricorn is the new Sagittarius, Aquarius takes over the mantle of Capricorn and so on. I am Pisces and although I was born on the cusp and so already share some of my personality traits with Aquarius I am not happy at being told that I have to give up many of the Pisces traits that I like. Sure there are some things I might like to change, which makes me wonder if maybe it can be done as a sort of mix and match where we swop the traits we dislike with ones that we prefer?

Interestingly, this may have an effect upon all those people who disclaim the power of astrology. In the US, 25% of the population are believers in astrology which means that there must also be a large amount who sit on the fence. You know the type. ‘Non-believers’ who covertly read their star signs? They claim not to know anything about star signs but they know the personality traits that accord with their sign and probably which signs they are compatible with too. Well I wonder if these non-believing Leo’s are going to discard their Lion status and happily take on the ways of the Crab? Are the diplomatic Librans going to be happy to suddenly become Virgo?

What of star sign compatibility? Our love star signs are now going to be different. Are we now going to find ourselves attracted to a completely different type of personality?

Will we suddenly find that we have nothing in common with our love partners?

Could this change of personality be sited as grounds for divorce?

Then of course there are the people that have really committee to their star sign by having a body tattoo. Is there going to be a rush to the laser treatment surgeries for removal of the now erroneous sign or perhaps a good tattoo artist can mask the Sagittarius into Scorpio?

No one can predict how it is going to go but you can be sure of one thing…there will be a lot more discussion to come on this subject.

The stars might not actually be aligned in your favor

A recent Harris Poll found that 31 percent of Americans believe in astrology. They're wrong -- although not necessarily in the way their detractors might cite.

The ancient Babylonians based zodiac signs on the constellation the sun was "in" on the day a person was born. During the ensuing millenniums, the moon's gravitational pull has made the Earth "wobble" around its axis, creating about a one-month bump in the stars' alignment.

The result?

"When [astrologers] say that the sun is in Pisces, it's really not in Pisces," said Parke Kunkle, a board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society.

Indeed, most horoscope readers who consider themselves Pisces are actually Aquarians. So instead of being sensitive, humane and idealistic, they actually are friendly, loyal and inventive.

Or not.

There is no physical connection between constellations and personality traits, said Kunkle, who teaches astronomy at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. "Sure, we can connect harvest to the stars," he said. "But personality? No."

Astronomers have pooh-poohed astrology from the get-go, but Kunkle hedged when asked if astrology can bring people to his science.

"Historically, people looked at the sky to understand the world around us," he said. "But today I don't think people who are into astrology look at the sky very much."

But they do look at horoscopes. And now they have an explanation for why a day might not have turned out exactly as predicted.
